I think i am going to go with utilizing my extra bath tub with water and keep the house temp down this summer. That should solve the problem this year I think. If not its good to know that i can salavage it by making a new batch of yeast and putting that into the carboy to get the ideal fermentation. Would puttting your carboy in water help when its cold out as well??
A question about check the starch conversion. I am new to all grain; and have been experminting becuase i want to learn the more advance process to have more control over beer making. How do you check/know if mash profile was sufficient at starch conversion?? I remember reading somewhere that if you siphon some out on a plate and drip some iodine on it and it changes color it would be done. But not sure if that is the right way.
THank you guys for all of your helpfull feedback. I really appreciate it.
Yep. Iodine test is the way although if it turns purple its not done yet. Honestly though if you mash for at least an hour, you really don't have to worry about it. I never test my conversion. Most conversion is done within the first 15 minutes of the mash unless you undershot your mash temp. I say dont worry about it.. relax and have a homebrew!
